

Born in Canton, Ohio January 24th, 1943. Dan was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, & uncle. Anyone who knew Dan couldn’t help but love him. Dan could strike up a conversation with anyone and was always making people laugh with his constant jokes, humor and wit. Dan was a Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Cancer survivor twice and fought a battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson's for the last 5 years- a fighter till the end, a true Marine. Dan was a proud and decorated Marine, a Corporal Officer serving from 1960-1966. Dan continued his hard work at the Timken Company and retired after 35 years. Dan spent most of his retired days at Meyers Lake, serving as president for the Meyers Lake Sportsman’s Club. Dan loved spending time with his family and being at his home that his wife and he lived in for 58 years. Dan was a devout Catholic at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, attending every weekend with his wife. Dan loved being on the lake & fishing and loved being outdoors, you could always find him out in the sunshine.
Dan is survived by his wife and love of his life for 61 years, Mary "Betsy" Rooney; his 2 children, Dan (Yvette) Rooney and Traci (David) Mullett; grandchildren, Hollyann (Merrick) Storlie, David Mullett, Sherilynn Mullett, Katelyn (Tyler) Arnold, Allison (Cody) Watts, and Lauren Rooney; great-grandchildren, Addison Storlie, Camille Arnold, Emmalyn Watts, and Nathan Watts; 4 sisters, Retta (Ronald) Maynard, Nancy (Richard) Biggerstaff, Judy (John) Vaught, and Susan Rooney; 1 brother, Michael (Cindy) Rooney; 1 brother-in-law, Donald Harry. Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Mabel Rooney; 3 sisters, JoAnn (Raymond) Scanlon, Maryann Harry, and Janet Powell.
A visitation for Daniel will be held Monday, January 6, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd NW, Canton, Ohio 44718. A mass of Christian burial will occur Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 3430 St. Michael Blvd. NW, Canton, Ohio 44718. Interment with military honors will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stark County Humane Society.
