Donald Arthur Anderson, 88, of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026. Born on March 12, 1937, in Canton, Ohio, Don built a life defined by dedication, harmony, and a deep love for family and the outdoors. He had served in the Army National Guard as a Staff Sergeant in the 2nd Battalion, 137th Armor Regiment.
Don, or “Andy” as his colleagues referred to him, devoted his entire professional career to Ohio Power, now part of American Electric Power, where he served as a respected Electrical Engineer. Known for his steady leadership, strong work ethic, and keen technical mind, he contributed faithfully to the company until his retirement at age 62.
In retirement, Don wholeheartedly embraced the passions that brought him the greatest happiness. He was ecstatic about becoming a grandpa. He used every opportunity to teach, play, and encourage his grandchildren to always do good things. He was very proud of each of them and was always there to cheer them on at their recital, sport, or special event.
A lifelong lover of music, he was a dedicated member of the Canton Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) for nearly 50 years. He sang proudly in several quartets over the decades, sharing not only his voice but also the fellowship and joy that barbershop harmony creates. He also enjoyed woodworking and helped create pieces that enriched his daughters’ homes as well as his own.
Don’s other passion was fishing. He found special joy fishing the lakes and rivers of Ohio, especially when casting a line alongside his son-in-law, Dave, or his oldest friend, James Middaugh, aka, Bubba. Those outings were filled with laughter, storytelling, and the simple pleasure of time spent together. He particularly appreciated the fantastic meals Dave would prepare—good food shared after a day on the water made those moments all the more meaningful.
He was a faithful member of St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church where he formed so many special friendships and met his sweetheart, Ginny Larson.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marlene. Not only was Don blessed with the love of Marlene, but later in life, he found love again with Ginny, whom he spent almost nine years. Through his love of Ginny, he grew very close with her family; sister, Debi; daughter, Kim Phillips (Mark); son Chris Larson (Melody); and grandchildren, Sophia, Sam, and Tate. He showed them how easy it is to love and be kind. He also encouraged them to do good things.
He is survived by his daughters, Lorraine Bivin (Dave), Cheryl Mosback, and Karen Floyd (Gary), and his cherished grandchildren, Jordan, Noah and Joshua (Floyd), and Liam and Finley (Mosback.) He is also survived by his Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, and dear friends whom he treasured.
Don will be remembered as a man of integrity, loyalty, and gentle humor—someone who built with care, sang with heart, and loved his family deeply. His legacy lives on in the music he shared, the friendships he formed, and the family who carry his memory forward.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the near future.
