

Don was born on October 1, 1937 to the late Dale R. And Doris (Huprich) Heathcoat. Much of his childhood was spent at Fairmount Children's Home.
He worked at Hercules Engines as an Inspector and union officer. Music was always close to his heart and he enjoyed playing the keyboard by ear, listening to Elvis, and relaxing with Western movies.
Later in life, Don was known for his humorous mentality often greeting someone with "Hey Alberman" phone calls always ended with see you later alligator, 4-9, 10-4 over and out never ended a call with goodbye always said "Later".
Don was rarely seen without his loyal dog Rex, who was always by his side. He was an avid hunter and he loved hunting so much that the video games he played was hunting where he had a virtual dog also named Rex.
Don came to faith later in life after the loss of his wife. He would look forward to bible studies and how he can learn to serve the Lord better. He was so excited to be baptized after his salvation that he dunked himself forward in the baptism. Grandpa loved his wife dearly and treasured his family and loved the Lord our God above all.
Don is survived by his children, Tamra (Gerald) Dale, Don (Linda) Heflin, Jr., Toni (Joan) Heflin, Janet (Tim) Kohl. He was proud Grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Cheryl Heflin, Diane (Dave) Holmes, Scott Heflin, and Mark (Sandra) Heflin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey; his brothers, Dick and Rick; his sister, Helen, Clara, and infant sister, Patty.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Hills Burial Park Mausoleum at Liberty Square. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
