Gary Daniel Powell

Gary Daniel Powell, 51, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly on August 17, 2023. A graduate of Barberton High School, Gary later joined the U.S. Army, where he proudly served as a Combat Engineer for three years, stationed in Mannheim, Germany. He was a member of the Gas Workers Union Local G-555 for seventeen years, where he was admired for his leadership and kindness.

He was a selfless man, dedicated to family and friends, and an inspiration to all who knew him. He had a strong passion for sports and music, frequently attending sporting events and concerts with his two sons. Gary always had a place in his heart for his pets, all rescues that were spoiled every day.

Gary was preceded in death by grandparents Margaret and Leonard A. Powell; grandmother Margaret Gula; brother Jensen Powell. He is survived by sons Nathan (Desirae) Powell and Nicholas (Ziggie) Powell; parents Gary David Powell and Cheryl (Steve) Phillips; siblings Jeffrey (Rosie) Powell, Bekee and Marcee Powell; Loree (Steve) Consalvi; close friend Jennifer (Jason) Sager and her daughter Makenzie.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 11am-1pm and 4-6 pm at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd NW, Canton. The funeral service will begin at 6pm, where military honors will be rendered. Gary’s final resting place will be at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, OH.
