Hilliard "Hy" Leon Sanders

Hy was born in Hayesville, NC on February 16, 1941, to the late Vestal and Lydia (Robinson) Sanders. After he graduated from Canton South High School in 1959, he began working for Timken. He worked for Timken for 40 years in roller processing until he retired in 1999. Hy married Thelma Brammer on July 3, 1961, and they have enjoyed 64 years of marriage. In his free time, Hy loved to spend time with his grandchildren, woodworking, gardening, and hunting. He also enjoyed coin-collecting. Hy was a longtime member of The Father’s House in Canton.

Hy is survived by his loving wife, Thelma, three children: Peggy Schiller, Douglas S. (Renee) Sanders, and David (Tabatha) Sanders; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, three brothers: Allan (Dee) Sanders, Archie (Mary) Sanders, and Carl Sanders; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, Hy is preceded in death by two children, Randy Sanders and Jason Sanders, Sr., and his sister, Shirley Goins.

Calling hours for Hy will be held at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 pm and on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, December 12th at 12:00 pm with Reverend Webb Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sanders family to assist with funeral expenses.
