Jenny Siew-chieng Chow, 68, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 23rd, at her daughter's (Nancy) home in New York City. She was born on September 8th, 1942 in Brunei to Chinese parents who immigrated to Brunei from Canton, China. At the age of 24, she left her birthplace to follow her fiancé (now husband) Simon to South Dakota. They eventually settled in Ohio in 1967. Jenny was devoted to making a beautiful, loving home in this new land. She dedicated her life to raising four children, one English Setter, two parakeets, countless hamsters and fish, and three cats. Because she also loved birds, her backyard was a haven for hungry birds. Another passion was cooking. For many years Jenny taught Chinese cooking classes for local adult education centers. She was a volunteer at Aultman Hospital.
Jenny was a proud cancer survivor of 14 years. She was a hero in her fight to beat the disease. Reciting Psalm 23 and The Lord's Prayer helped her get through the toughest times. In her later years, she found much joy in spending time with her family, traveling, shopping, action/adventure movies and as always, cooking and nourishing her loved ones. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of North Canton, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her father Ah Hing Chong, mother Yuk Chai Leung, and two younger brothers, Chuen Hwa Chong and Kwai Hwa Chong. She is survived by her husband, Simon Fang-chin; her daughter, Mabel Chow Brown and her husband Garry of New Albany, Ohio; her son Michael Chow and his wife Heidi of Dublin, Ohio; her daughter Nancy Gallen and her husband David of New York City; and daughter Sharon Hsin-ya Chow and her husband Eric of New York City; grandchildren Tyler Brown, Amanda Brown, Lily Chow, Sarah Gallen, and Ella Chow; older sister Siew King Chong (Betty Ah-king Yu); younger brother Lee Hwa Chong, nephew Ying Hwa (Jimmy) Yu, and niece May HwaYu and many other nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Friday, October 29th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Karlo-Feucht Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Road N.W., Canton, Ohio, where funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30 at 10 a.m. Pastor David Warren officiating.
