

Joanne was born in Wooster, Ohio on March 7, 1929. She moved to Canton in 1945. She married Sheldon (Bud) Hughes in 1947. They had one child and divorced in 1949. Joanne worked as a dance instructor for Arthur Murray Studios until she married Thomas R. Jakmides in 1951. They had two children.
Joanne was an actress in the Canton Players Guild from 1957-65. There, she met John (Jack) M. Wildey of Chicago. They married in 1967 and lived in OH and PA before moving to NC in 1973. Joanne had a passion for gardening, cooking, and sewing. She made her daughter’s wedding gown and quilts for her children and grandchildren. She worked for Ivey’s (Dillard’s) throughout the 1980s and 90s. She returned to Canton in 2007.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Esther Miller and George A. Canterbury of Canton, sister Mary Lou, brother George, and her husbands. She is survived by sister Shirley Cary of North Canton, OH; brother Dan Canterbury of Melbourne, FL; son Thomas S. Hughes of Hayden Lakes, ID; son Jeffrey R. Jakmides of Alliance, OH; daughter Marianne J. Dyson of Houston, TX; 11 grandchildren: Pat and Paul Hughes, Christine Clark, Angela Warax, Valerie Brawner; John, Jeffrey, and Janie Jakmides, Julie J. Mack; Thomas and Scott Dyson; and 14 great grandchildren: Dustin and Marx Cadwaler, Koleigh and Viktor Warax, Sebastian, Hendrix, and Violet Brawner, and Calvin Clark; Evelyn Mack, Miles Jakmides, Atlas Jakmides; Serenity and Huey Dyson, and Xavier Dyson.
