

Mary Ann (Frank) Steigerwald, age 81, of Jackson Township, passed away November 8, 2011. She was born in Massillon on October 7, 1930, the daughter of the late Edward and Ruth (Scheetz) Frank. She was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and had received recognition for having placed 19th in a State Latin Test. She worked at Franks Fruits and Vegetables, which her father founded and O’Neils Dept. Store. Mary Ann was a charter member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, a member and past president of the St. Michael’s Guild, a member and past vise-president of The Stark Deanery of the National Council of Catholic Women and was a voting delegate at a National meeting in New Orleans & Denver, member and past president of the St. Michael’s Garden Club, member and past vise-president of the Canton Garden Center, honorary member and past president of the Herb Society at the Hoover Historical Center, past president of the Council at the Hoover Historical Center, she was Volunteer of the Year and twice recipient of the Helen Hoover Rose Award for her volunteer service. She enjoyed gardening and playing cards with friends and family members. Most of all, treasured the friendships of the people in her life. Her love of God and family, being always the priority of her love and wish to be a wife and mother was the vocation that she considered to be her greatest satisfaction and happiness for her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, John R. and Steven C. Steigerwald. She is survived by her husband John R. Steigerwald of the home, daughter, Susan (Rick) Mattix of Canfield, Sons, Craig Steigerwald, Michael Steigerwald, David Steigerwald, all of Canton, and daughter, Jan (Lee) Barclay of Delmar, New York, grandchildren, Derick and Hannah Mattix, Sean (Melissa), Heather and Dane Barclay, great-grandson, Gavin Barclay, sister, Elaine (Frank) Lab, brother, Edward Frank, numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6-9pm Friday, November 11th at Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday November 12th at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 3430 St. Michael Dr., Canton, with an additional visitation one hour prior to the service at the church, (9am-10am).
