Shirley Ann Sollie

Shirley was born in Canton on July 23, 1934 to the late Velma (Strobel) and Paul Haager. Shirley grew up in North Industry Evangelical Lutheran Church (now Peace Lutheran). She was also a member of Trinity United Church of Christ of Canton where she was active in the handbell choir, and Zion U.C.C. of North Canton.

She was a graduate of Canton South High School and Canton Actual Business College. She was a former employee of the Timken Company, The Republican Committee of Stark County, the Office of Glenwood High School, and Frontier Fruit and Nut at Belden Village Mall. Shirley also volunteered for North Canton Meals on Wheels for over 15 years. She came from a musical family and was proud of her days directing choirs and playing her clarinet in the Canton South High School Band. Even when she lost most of her speaking ability due to Primary Progressive Aphasia, she could still sing many of the songs she loved.

Shirley follows her beloved husband, Eugene (Gene) Sollie of nearly 50 years; her adored parents, Paul and Velma Haager; and her Goddaughter, Lisa Riefer in death. She was the dear mother of Bethanie (Sollie) and Tony Okray of North Canton, Kevin Sollie of Saint Johns, Florida, Pamela Sollie and Chelley Sydow of Los Angeles, California. She was often seen on the sidelines or in the audience cheering on her grandchildren, Austin, Madison, and Savannah Okray, and Blake, Avalon, Helena, and Luke Sollie. Her sisters, Beverly Souers, Carole Singer, and Dawn Souers played an important role in her life, because they were not only her sisters, but her best friends. Kay (Souers) Jacob was a special niece who often spent time with her and always brought her special treats.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday at Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call from 2-4pm on Sunday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home, 5000 Everhard Rd. NW, Canton. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 7707 Market Ave. N, North Canton, Ohio 44721.
