Walter J. “Jim” Gowins, age 81 of Jackson Township, passed away Wednesday evening, June 12, 2013 in his home. He was born October 18, 1931 in Uhrichsville, Ohio to the late Frank and Ruth (Bridgeman) Gowins.
Jim was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School where he lettered in football, baseball, basketball and track. He owned and operated W.J. Gowins and Sons Construction and will be remembered as an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary; brothers, John, Charles, Bill and Sonny; son, Tim; and grandson, Jeff.
He is survived by his wife, Millie Gowins; children, Cheryl (Tom) Horst, Greg (Karri) Gowins, Kathy Kastner; Ruth (special son-in-law, Dan) Long, and Jeff (Ronda) Gowins; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Ruthann Fouts; sister-in-law, Shirley Gowins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday in the Karlo-Libby Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills Burial Park.
