I can say that over the 20+ years I've known him, that  he was a man that loved his bride. He made no bones about it. He showed it everyday and did his best to make her every dream come true. That is something special that is missing in most relationships today. He made her feel special, in every way possible, even if he was in the cow pasture or the hay field and she wanted him home. There was no mistaking his love for her, his two girls and his grandkids, and greats. He was one of the good ones!

Charles has been in my life since I was about 10 years old.  I remember a cute little blond headed boy getting on the school bus, little did I know he would become my brother-in-law one day. He was the best. I think he fell in love with Helen the first day he met her. I am glad they had 53 happy years together. Charles was a great man. He was always there if you needed him.  He is truly loved and missed. 

I can remember when I was little I was ALWAYS wanting to go visit Uncle Charles and Aunt Helen! Uncle Charles would always pick me up and carry me around and I felt like I was on top of the world.  Some of the kids in the family were a little scared of him, I guess because he was so larger than life, but not me! He was my favorite!!

I have always said that my dad wanted boys whenever my sister or I did "boy stuff". But I think my dad was proud to have girls. You see, we grew up helping dad in his shop building his race cars, going on weekend fishing trips, riding go carts and getting dirty. I remember so many weekends going to the race track, hanging out in the pits w/ grease rags in our pockets & spitting just like all the boys did. I also remember that when we started thinking the boys were cute & stopped wanting to get so dirty, dad told us to get in the house w/ our mother. When racing season wasn't going on, we would be camping at the lake w/ friends, losing fishing rods in the lake because we didn't want to tell dad that we snagged our line as far back as it would go. Getting hot on the boat was never a problem because we would ask for a dip & he would grab us by the arm & in we would go. I remember having pets of all kinds growing up, he didn't like it much when my cat had all solid black kittens thou.  Dad was a very hard working man, but always had time for family & fun. I think his most favorite thing to do the last several years was travel w/ mom on their anniversaries. I sure miss him working on his farm equipment in the yard in front of my shop & coming to ask for help when that old stuff wouldnt cooperate.. I love you & miss you terribly dad. 

It's been almost a year, I love and miss you more than ever.  You always gave mom songs to show your love.  This song has always reminded me of you.  How strong and loving you were.

On Sept. 20, 2022 I woke up alone for the first time in 54 years on our Anniversary. Charles didn't smile and say good morning, happy anniversary like he  had for the last 53 years.  I missed that more than I can explain.  We met when we were 14 years old, and from that first meeting, I have always known I was loved.  We married at 16, raised a wonderful family and always worked together.  Through good times and hard times he was always a constant source of strength and safe haven for me.  He was always dedicating songs to me and even gave me a song for Christmas once.  He taped a 45 record to the bottom of a huge box, stuffed it with paper, wrapped it and put it under the tree.  The song was "Only one you" by T.G. Shepherd.  I still listen to it today along with the many others.  Charles was a good man, a good husband, a good dad.  And I am learning a good friend to many.  He was the hardest working man I ever knew.  If I were given the chance to start my life over, I would marry him all over again.  I would hold on a little tighter, say " I Love You" more often because I know when you can't any more, it hurts.  Charles will be gone a year in a couple weeks and it still feels like a huge boulder rolling over me sometimes.  But, years of beautiful memories and the loving family we created, get me through.  Till we meet again Charles, I will love you forever.

When I (Jackie) was about 14 we went out shopping for a Christmas Tree ( a real one) . We found a flocked white tree and it was beautiful. Alittle more expensive then he wanted to spend but was able to get the price down and we took it home. When we got home my mom said none of our decorations will show up on the tree because there was alot of white stuff.  So I picked to do red and blue.  We went out and got new decorations. I didn't want solid red and solid blue.  I wanted the lights to be red, blue, red blue, so I took the bulbs out and made them every other one.  There is a picture of the tree in the video. 

Charles  was one of the best 42 domino player.He loved playing against  coop n Bobbie jo back in the 70s. He loved his beautiful wife n his kids n grandkids great grandkids.He was intimidating to me at first when I met kinda scary but has I got to know him had a big heart.sorry I didn’t get to make to your funeral. Say hello to all our families.rest in peace I will see you again.

Charles, you will be missed. You were a great man and I had a privilege to get to grow up around you. You were very kind and had a sweet and genuine heart. Rest In Peace, Charles.
