Craig was a man who lived with grit, humor, and heart. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and friend who left an impression on everyone who knew him.
Craig had a deep love for the cowboy way of life. He found joy in roping, camping, horseback riding, and packing into the mountains. He was at home under a wide-open sky.
Craig never kept his knowledge to himself—he had a gift for teaching others “general cowboy stuff.” From showing the kids how to rope and ride, to passing on how to take care of a ranch with patience and pride. He lived by the values of hard work, integrity, loyalty, and love for family.
Everyone who knew Craig admired him. He was strong, but gentle. Tough, but kind. He carried himself with quiet confidence, the kind that drew others to him. He had the rare ability to make people feel seen and valued.
Craig’s legacy is not just in the skills he passed down. His family will remember him as the rock they could lean on, the storyteller who kept history alive, and the cowboy whose spirit will never be forgotten.
Today, while we grieve his passing, we also celebrate a life well lived. Craig’s story will continue through Brenda, his children, each of his grandchildren, and through the countless friends whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Brenda J. Barton; their children, Clint Phillips and wife Marriah, Jason Phillips and wife, Misty, Angela Walker and husband, Doug, and Kaycee James and husband, Greg; and his 15 grandchildren, Tyler, Gage, Jaxon, Scout, Jordan, Mackenzie, Slate, Sage, Cody, Chase, Halle, Ollie, Darian, Jake, and Cooper; as well as three great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Montana, and Jameson; mother, Ann Haley; sister, Karen Bressler; any a multitude of other family and friends.
Craig was preceded in death by his father, J. Lenwood Barton.
Though we say goodbye for now, we know his trail does not end here. Craig’s spirit rides on—in the mountains he loved, in the family he raised, and in the hearts of all who knew him.
Rest easy, Cowboy. You’ve earned your peace.
To all left behind Craig would say, "Cowboy up and keep riding."
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayer during this time as they prepare for Craig's services.
A visitation for Craig will be held Monday, September 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Eubank Funeral Home, Canton, TX 75103. A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Eubank Funeral Home.
