

Services for Dewey Willard Pierce, 94, of Grand Saline, will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Canton with Pastor Mike Robertson officiating. Interment will be in Creagleville Cemetery in Grand Saline.
Mr. Pierce was born September 28, 1930 in the Antioch Community of Van Zandt County and passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 in Grand Saline.
He was preceded in death by his father, A. Dewey Pierce; his mother, Clara McMakin; his brother, Harold Pierce; his sister, Lola Flinn; and his ex-wife, Nadine Pierce. He is survived by his three sons: Ron, Rick and Sam; his daughter, Dixie Jones; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Dewey was a member of First Baptist Church in Canton, Texas. Having professed his faith in Christianity at age 17, he was a member of several Baptist churches as he moved from place to place, following his chosen career of petroleum engineering. He was ordained a deacon in the First Baptist Church in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1966. He also served as a volunteer music director in most of the smaller churches and loved choir work.
He received his education in the Grand Saline School system, 1st through 12th grade, and then attended SMU and Texas Tech where he received a BS degree in petroleum engineering. He pursued his engineering career with the major oil companies, first with Magnolia Petroleum Co. The job assignments with this company took him and his family to projects in Texas, Kansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. Then he went into offshore work with Conoco in the Gulf of Mexico and in 1972 to the North Sea development projects.
In 1975 he formed his own consulting company and worked predominantly for Mobil Oil Co. on projects in Norwegian waters of the North Sea, offshore Scotland and offshore Nigeria. He also worked on the first offshore development in the Indian Ocean offshore South Africa. He retired at age 69 to his farm near Grand Saline where he had grown up.
A visitation for Dewey will be held Monday, May 12, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Canton.
