

Memorial services for Donald Herbert Metch, 78, Canton, will be held Monday June 19, 2017 at Four Mile Lutheran Church in Mabank with Pastor Joan Iker and Deacon Larry Edwards officiating. He passed away June 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
Metch was born September 21, 1938, in Somerville, NJ. He was a notorious hard worker, operating a dairy farm and working in construction and landscaping in New Jersey. His work ethic continued in Canton, Texas from 1982 until his passing, as a nurseryman and a rancher. Metch brought leadership and passion to numerous organizations he was involved in, including the American Hereford Association, Texas Polled Hereford Association, Texas Association of Nurserymen, Van Zandt County Farm Bureau, Van Zandt County Republican Club & State Delegate, Volunteer Fire Fighter and 4-H Club Leader. He was also a dedicated member of Four Mile Lutheran Church where he was the chair of the cemetery committee for 27 years.
Metch will be deeply missed by his family and so many people that were blessed to have known him. He will be remembered as an amazing businessman, promotor and educator of agriculture, and political advocate. His family and friends will never forget his sense of humor, deep laugh, cheerful smile, and his willingness to share his broad base of knowledge. He was the embodiment of what a man, husband, father, and grandfather should be.
He is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Natalie Metch, his brother David Metch, and his sister Judy Millet.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Ann Metch, sister Patricia Smith and brother in-law Phillip Smith, sister in-law Carol Metch, brother in-law William Millet and his wife Michelle Millet, son Bill Metch and daughter in-law Christine Metch and her children Eric Avery and Jessica Beckwith and her husband Tyler, daughter Barbara Metch and son in-law Gary Holan and his daughters Amber Holan and Carrie Donnel and her husband Jonathan, grandsons Daniel Metch and Jacob Metch along with their wives Jenilee and Mary Kate, great grandsons Wyatt Metch and Colton Metch, and many other loved nieces and nephews.
