Janma, as she was affectionately known, passed away May 15, 2024 in Dallas. She was born September 25, 1950 in Dallas to James Weldon and Anna Ruth Briggs Darst.
Janma was a member of First Baptist Church in Terrell. She grew up in Mesquite and graduated from Mesquite High School. Janma married Gayland Mahan on December 18, 1971. She loved doing yardwork, especially mowing. Janma was a survivor and inspired others by the way she handled her health problems over the years. She was mischievous and enjoyed laughing, but was hard-headed.
Mrs. Mahan is preceded in death by her parents, James Weldon Darst, Anna Ruth Burns, and Walt Burns; and her infant son, Matthew Dean Mahan.
Janma is survived by her husband of 52 years, Gayland; son and daughter-in-law, Josh and Nancy Mahan; two daughters: Traci Mahan and Mindy Mahan; grandchildren: Matt and Dakota; sister, Judy Ford; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Jewell Darst; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
