Jerry was predeceased by his mother, Florine (nee Brunson), and his father, Irby Blue. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Delbert West and Myrtle (nee Wilson).
Jerry was born on October 31, 1938 in San Antonio, TX while his father was stationed there in the army. Growing up, Jerry lived in many places including Canton and surrounding areas, Trinidad, and East Dallas before his family moved to Mesquite in the 1950s. Jerry graduated from Mesquite High School in 1958. In 1960, he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after serving as an Ammo Storage Specialist where he earned the Good Conduct Medal. Upon discharging from the Army, Jerry moved back home to Mesquite and was hired by the City of Dallas where he worked on the survey party that was involved in building the Mockingbird Lane bridge over White Rock Lake. During this time, he met the love of his life, Waundene, through a co-worker. They were married on January 15, 1966 in Durant, Oklahoma and began their life together in Irving, Texas. In May 1966, Jerry began working for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier and he and Waundene welcomed their first daughter, Sherry, later that same year. Jerry and Waundene moved to Mesquite in May of 1969. They welcomed their second daughter, Heather, in January 1974. While living in Mesquite, Jerry continued to work as a letter carrier, first in Farmers Branch, and then in the Casa View area of Dallas. Some of his greatest joys came from spending time with his wife and children. They created many memories while enjoying their horses & dogs. Rain or shine, Jerry could often be seen taking care of the family’s horses at the Circle L Corral in Garland, Texas. His daughters appreciate all of the time and love he showed by supporting them as they participated in the riding club’s events such as Play Days, rodeos, and parades. Jerry retired from the post office in the late 90s, and he and Waundene eventually moved to Canton, Texas in 2011, where they reconnected with extended family members and made many cherished friends.
Jerry enjoyed strength training and jogging up until until the day he died. He was an avid reader, enjoyed spending time researching his family genealogy, shooting his bow and arrows, or watching television.
Jerry and Waundene got their first golden doodle, Lucky Max, in April 2018. One of Jerry’s favorite pastimes was taking Lucky Max to various dock-jumping competitions. Lucky was never far from Jerry, and they will now be reunited in their final resting place together.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their support during this difficult time. Jerry will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
