Nellie Waller (Sue or Susie as most knew her) went home to the Lord on May 1, 2023, passing away unexpectedly with her loved ones nearby. She was born on November 13,1943 in Mart, Texas to W. B. May and Vera Williams May. A committal service will be held for Sue Waller, 79, of White Settlement, Texas at 10:30 a.m. at DFW National Cemetery on May 10, 2023.
Sue was one of twelve children; she grew up in a house full of love, laughter, creativity, and hard work often sharing stories of her sisters and brothers, picking cotton, playing basketball, and going to church. In 1965, she married her one true love, James Aubrey Waller, Sr. They were married for 55 years and, especially after James was wounded in Vietnam, showed that commitment, determination, and loyalty create a steadfast and unbreakable bond. Sue and James completed each other. He never missed telling her she was beautiful! She had missed him desperately since his death and we know she is happy to be by his side once again.
Sue attended Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas and Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. She became a librarian and worked for the White Settlement Public Library for 30 years. When she retired, she was honored with a “Sue Waller Library Day” from the city for her years of service.
Sue was a beloved mother to Suzanne, who treasured their time together, and her husband, Ronnie. She was a doting and loving mother to James, who was her best friend and his wife, Amanda. Sue loved her grandchildren deeply and passed her love of reading, tea parties, and grand adventures to them. Sue's heart was huge and encompassed everyone she met; her enthusiasm for life was contagious.
Reading was a passion, though some of her favorite days were camping in state parks, listening to Bluegrass Music, visits from her sister, family reunions, weekends with family, coffee and picnics with her granddaughters, trips to Disney, and even cruising – asking family to come along without hesitation. She had an eye for fashion and loved a good shopping trip! She wanted everyone to feel her happiness. She loved Daisy, the St. Bernard, her great grandpups Buster, Blue, Frio, Juicy, Rosie, and Socks and Pumpkin, the yellow cats. Most recently, she enjoyed sweeping her front porch and collecting sweet gum balls.
She set a high standard and everyone around her aspired to reach and uphold those standards. She made us better people. Sue will live on in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved her.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Vera May, beloved husband, James A. Waller, Sr.; and ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Lindley, and husband, Ronnie; son, James Waller, Jr, and wife Amanda; grandchildren: Katie, Scott, Karlie, Jordan, Alexis, Lauren, Chloe, Summer; sister, Evelyn Duncan; sister in laws, Linda May and Odette May; brother-in-law, Richard Peart, Sr.; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends who adored her.
