Richard Munns

Funeral services for Richard Munns, age 93, of Athens, Texas will be held at 11am Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton, TX, with Bro. Steve Glosup officiating. Interment will be in Haven of Memories immediately following the service.

Mr. Munns passed away July 11, 2022, at his home. He was born March 27, 1929, in Van Zandt County to John and Mattie Pierce Munns.

Mr. Munns was a member of First Baptist Church in Canton, TX. He enjoyed a long and very active life that began with school in Martin's Mill followed by earning his teaching certificate in Ft. Worth. He was a proud member of the United States Marines and served our country with honor. Following the military, he became half owner of J&M Auto Supply in Arlington, TX, and began doing the machine work for Six Flags Over Texas in their early years of operation by keeping the antique cars running smoothly. Once he closed the auto supply store he began teaching auto mechanics and auto air conditioning at Tarrant County Junior College in Ft. Worth and Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, TX. He built motors for racecars, winning many trophies to show his talent. Mr. Munns also worked on and drove the buses for the church he was a member of in Arlington.

Mr. Munns also enjoyed woodworking and looked forward each year to planting a garden and sharing what he grew with his family and friends. He also loved cutting and splitting his own firewood by hand, feeding the deer, birds, squirrels and his pond full of catfish. Mr. Munns was proud that he passed on his love of animals, mechanical talents and appreciation of hard work to his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Munns is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie Munns and his sister, Corene Koziol.

Mr. Munns is survived by his beloved wife, Jo Ann Munns of Athens, TX; son, Billy Munns of Mansfield, TX; daughter, Stevanna Tyler and husband, Gregg, of Justin, TX; 2 grandchildren, Jonathon and Cody Landham; and 4 great-grandchildren, Summer, Alex, Gage and Kayla Landham.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service at Eubank Funeral Home.
