Van Allen Flournoy

Van Allen Flournoy, 95, of Wills Point, Texas went home to be with the Lord peacefully in his sleep on May 20, 2022. He was born on February 4, 1927 in San Augustine, Texas to Lester Flournoy and Bessie Tinsley Flournoy.

A visitation/gathering of family and friends will take place at Eubank Funeral Home, in Canton, Texas on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. It will be followed by a chapel service at 2:00 p.m., with Chaplin Paul Jacobs and Bro. Wes Wuerch officiating.

Van grew up in Union Springs, AL. He was drafted into the US Army in April of 1945 during WW II. Van was very proud to have served his country.

Van married the love of his life, Mary Ruth Parker, on February 25, 1949. The couple had 73 wonderful years together. Van was a wonderful storyteller, if you were around him for very long you heard several of his stories and most of his stories were told in laughter and always had a humorous punch line.

Van was a welder by trade and enjoyed helping others; he helped build many metal buildings and awnings. He enjoyed time with friends and always loved a good game of dominos. In his younger years when time allowed he also enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.

Van lived through many things and many changes in the world, but the one constant was his love for the Lord, his wife Ruth and all his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Bessie Flournoy; brother, Cecil Flournoy; sisters, Frances Luck and Mary Blakely; and his grandson, Steven Allen Flournoy.

Van is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Flournoy; son and daughter-in-law, James and Carolyn Flournoy; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Phil Elery; grandchildren: Paul Allen Flournoy, Tammy and husband Dave Gibbs, Tonja Caldwell, Tiffany Flournoy, Joseph Allen Flournoy, Scott and wife Ashton Elery, Mark and wife Savannah Elery; great grandchildren, Randy, James, Cari, Gunner, Jesse, Isabella, Preston, Elly, Bjorn, Willo, Axel, Coleson, Eli and Hazel; six great-great-children; and a host of other family and friends.
