

Virginia went home to the Lord on March 17, 2023. She was born on October 12, 1939 in Atlanta, Georgia to Claude Ernest Nichols and Sybil Downs Nichols.
Virginia grew up in a military family, living in Atlanta and later in California; it was in California she met and married a Marine, her one true love, David Marvin Cockerham. The couple settled in Texas and built a life together, raising their family. Virginia received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from East Texas University and taught school in Wills Point, Texas for many years.
Virginia was a country girl at heart. She enjoyed camping and fishing. Grew a beautiful garden and canned what she grew. In her leisure time, you could find her crocheting and knitting something special for a loved one. Virginia was a loving mother and devoted wife. She will be remembered in the hearts and memories of all that knew and loved her.
Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Sybil Nichols; beloved husband, David Cockerham; sister, Carolyn Poulin.
She is survived by her children: Dave “Rusty” Cockerham, Kirt and Jackie Cockerham, Joey and Kristen Cockerham, Chris and Melissa Cockerham; grandchildren; Elizabeth, Emma, Jacob and Garrett; sisters, Claudia Nichols and Pam Jones; many nieces and nephews; a host of other family and friends.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Haven of Memories Cemetery in Canton, Texas.
