W. J. (Bill) Tompkins

Services for W. J. (Bill) Tompkins, 92, of Edom, will be held 2 pm Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Barton's Chapel Assembly of God with Bro. Terry Thomison officiating. Interment will be in Edom Cemetery.

Mr. Tompkins passed away on February 7, 2022 in Tyler. Bill was born August 15, 1929, in Athens to Harvey Lee and Louthree Capehart Tompkins.

Bill lived in the Chandler area most of his life. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War, where he sustained injuries and earned a Purple Heart. Bill married Clovis Edwards on March 21, 1959. He followed construction work for three years with Brown and Root Construction. In the late 1960's he began building custom homes. Bill enjoyed farming and coon hunting. He was a longtime member of Barton's Chapel Assembly of God near Murchison where he served on the Board for over 60 years.

Mr. Tompkins is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Louthree Tompkins; brothers: Bob and Larry Tompkins; and sisters: Martha Rushin, Nelda Norris and Pat Thompson.

Bill is survived by his wife, Clovis, of Edom; two sons and daughters-in-laws: David and Delene Tompkins and Stephen and Susan Tompkins, both of Ben Wheeler; six grandchildren: Chas, Cory, Mallory, Alyssa, Jewlea and Bethany and David Harris; seven Great-grandchildren: Jasmine, Brayden, Karter, Jasper, Ellie, Cainan and Blair; brother, Harvey Lee Tompkins of Chandler and sister, Janie Richardson of Tyler.

Pallbearers will be Chris Boyd, Glen Whorton, Kelly Tompkins, Daniel Hutchins, Dale Tompkins and Terry Tompkins. Honorary pallbearers are Cory Tompkins, Chas Tompkins and Jonathan Tompkins.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to Barton's Chapel Assembly of God Church, Edom, TX, in lieu of flowers.
