Buddy was the most supportive person I have ever met!  He helped anyone with anything.  He was a treasure when I needed help with anything to do with my brother, Ray, who had Parkinson’s.
We all loved Buddy and miss him terrible here in Moody River and our hearts bleed for Trish.

I am so very saddened to hear this news today. I met Buddy through a friend Richard Milliken (Deceased) and we became quick friends. Buddy was so full of of life and an all around great person. The world was a better place with Buddy, i’m so very very sorry.

My heart is sad in hearing that Buddy has passed.   In 2004, he was the store manager at the store I shopped at during Hurricane Charlie. Buddy was the nicest manager that I ever worked with at Publix. He was easy to talk to, and always had a kind smile on his face. #426 was never as good again, as when Buddy was at the helm. God speed, Buddy.

I knew Buddy from North High. Worked with him 4 years at Publix, 1979-1983. I also shared lunch and Basketball with him and Mike Scott everyday during Junior and Senior year. We went water skiing many times. He was a great man and I wished we stayed closer. God Bless him and Gods strength to his family.  Chuck Rakocinski 

Buddy was a wonderful person who always gave to others.   He was a great friend to my mom, Mary Tanner, and would always make a point to celebrate Sweet Graces birthdays  every year.   He will be truly missed by many.  It is with a sad heart that the good ones get taken so young.  Bless your family.

Some of my best work days were spent working with Buddy. He was kind, caring, compassionate, always putting others first. He had a hugh heart and didn’t know a stranger.  He always had a plan and could see the best in everyone. He certainly was one of a kind. To this day I fondly speak of the time we worked together and proudly claim him as my mentor. Even when we no longer worked together , buddy always stayed in touch, either a call, text or drop by the store to say hello. He was a role model in so many ways. It was a blessing to know Buddy and an honor to be his friend. 

We were only blessed to have known Buddy for such a short time, but he left us with an empty hole in our hearts.  He always has a smile on his face and he was always there for us.  He chased me off the ladder more times then I can count saying "Joe I'll do that for you". No matter what he was doing he would stop to give me a hand.  He was one of a kind, a good man, and good husband and a good friend. He will be missed.  "I want to tell you something so there won't be any doubt. Buddy was so wonderful to think of But so hard to be without."  God, please bless Buddy. May you keep him. And may your countenance shine upon him and bring him everlasting peace. Amen. Remember buddy as a 2nd assitant years ago when  I was a 16 year old starting out at Publix. Total great guy who left us way too soon.

We are sorry for your loss. Memories  remembered are signs of grief but happiness.  

I often teased Buddy and called him " our boyscout" because he always was setting the best examples, was always prepared, and could always be counted on. Often regional directors would send store managers questionnaires to find out their career goals, hobbies, family updates etc. The questionare always ended with "anything else you'd like to add?" I always ended mine with "I believe Buddy Kubesh will win the George Jenkins award". I'll never forget the day he called me and said, " Millie, it happened..but you can't say anything yet.. I won the GWJ..."  I also am grateful that in some of the most difficult times of my life, he always reached out immediately offering to help, listen, or just go cry in a beer with me.  He was the best of us. I am so honored you were my friend BuddyKub.

I will never forget Buddy’s laugh or sense of humor. We had many great memories together, most of which occurred at Publix or in the gym. 

I considered him a life long friend who I could always depend on. We affectionately referred to each other as a “brother from another mother.” Every time we would talk on the phone he would ask how my family was, because he truly cared, that is who Buddy was.

I started working at Publix #201 in 1977. I saw a lot of young men come and go through our store. Buddy came in with a group, Troy Oliver, Chuck Rakozinski, Todd Rickner, Paul Chaplow  and others. They were all great guys but Buddy was special. All of us at #201 were family and  Buddy was a really big part of that family. Definitely one of the greatest to work with and to be able to watch him grow up to be a wonderful family man.  Knowing he has left us is devastating. Buddy you will be greatly missed.  

Buddy was a wonderful person, friend and manager. He will be deeply missed. My condolences to Cathy and Jennifer and the rest of his family. He always said I gave him the abs he had because I was always back handing him when he said something I didn’t like. 😊  Rest In Peace. 

Buddy's compassion was contagious. He had such great purpose in this realm, He's smile was bright, he was loyal and strong. His wife and him were wonderful animal activist!

I miss you so much. You were there for me when no one was. We talked all the time, you always listened. You helped me when no-one would. Your we’re always there when I needed you. Because of you I opened my 401k, got promoted and had an incredible 14 year ride as a manager. Because of that I was able to buy a beautiful home in North Carolina that you knew about and we’re going to see one day. I miss you so much, you were my Dad when I needed, friend when I needed, my heart is literally breaking. 14 years ago you came into 775 and changed my life forever. Your impact can not be taken lightly. You changed, and helped so many people I wanted to be like you. I looked up to you, I love you my brother, I miss you. Tears are rolling as I’m typing and I know you would say don’t. Don’t Ryan, I want you to be happy, don’t be sad for me, live your life, be great………. I love you my friend, you will be greatly missed. See you again on the other side.

Buddy was an awesome friend, he will be missed greatly. I was very much looking forward to all of us being neighbors in Kentucky. God has a plan for all of us, soar with the eagles and we will meet again one day I’m sure. I really miss our phone conversations almost every day.

It’s with great sorrow we learned of Buddy’s passing. In my entire life and I’m 71 years old I never met a man who gave so much of himself without asking anything in return.  A selfless human being. He was full of life and adventurous always questioning the the status quo. He made us laugh until our bellies ached. There will never be another like him.  I raise my glass to you my friend,

Although we did not know Buddy except through our dear friends Jeff and Laurie, we have prayed fervently for you all through his hospital stay, and will continue to do so. I had the honor of  teaching Buddy at North High. He was the type of person you could never forget. He was always smiling and kind to everyone he met. He was a wonderful person and student. He is the type of individual that you would never forget. I feel for Buddy's whole family in this time of sorrow.

I knew Buddy since 1988, working together at #201. Buddy was always high energy ( I thought I walked fast ) and connected on a personal level. I never heard anyone ever speak negative of Buddy.  I could go on and on but I had so much respect for Buddy and a leader and a person. 

3 Memories of Buddy:
1) As a 19 yr old stock clerk (  Buddy was the 2nd Asst Mgr at #201 ) I forget my dress shoes, we wore sneakers before the store opened. I wore a size 10 and Buddy wore a size 12 or 13. He had an extra pair in his truck so I stuffed paper towel in the toe so I could wear them until my mom brought my shoes to the store. 

2) We had a very small cash office at #418. Buddy and I were in there together and he farted. Just as he did, a female office staff came back there and Buddy lite a match, took the smell immediately away. The staff didn’t know why we were laughing so hard and kept asking why he was lighting matches. After that, anytime Buddy lite a  match, I knew what was going on!

3) Buddy was the ASM, I was the 2nd Asst Mgr at #418. I was scheduled to close and got really sick at work. He offered to stay and close for me ( he came in at 6am ) without me even asking. I ended up staying and closed because he cared enough to offer, I couldn’t let him down by leaving early. 


Buddy was one of the good guys.  It didn't matter the length of time that passed between seeing him, he was always quick with that warm generous smile and infectious laugh.  He was kind, hard working, and good to people.  He is greatly missed.  He had a lot to offer, and he gave all he had. 

Buddy was a wonderful human being,devoted husband ,father and grandfather,his absence leaves a big hole in our hearts.
He was like a son to me and will  never forget his kind face,his sweet smile and his caring

Buddy was an excellent Son to his Mother and Father, he was a great Father & Grandfather and he was a loving Husband to Tricia.  He was a Friend to everyone he met and for me, he is a Friend that I will miss everyday! Buddy was a great man. Truly one of a kind. He was without a doubt one of the best Store Managers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He is one of the reasons why Publix has enjoyed success throughout our history. A kind hearted, carrying man who left his mark on everyone he met. He will definitely be missed. Rest in Peace, boss.
