He was born December 19, 1941 in Long Beach, California to Lewis Glyton Woodrow and Ruby Marie Larson. Along with his little sister, Judy Woodrow, they moved to Paxton, Nebraska after World War II. Barry graduated from Paxton High School in 1960. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Finance in 1965 and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Following graduation he and his former wife and high school sweetheart, Karen Monson, moved to Dearborn, Michigan, where he was employed at Ford Motor Company. Barry served in the U.S. Army Reserves. After becoming a CPA, he worked at Arthur Young & Company. Barry was a savvy business man with a talent for making a company profitable. This was certainly recognized during his tenure at Evans Industries in Detroit, Michigan where he held the supreme titles of Vice President, Treasurer and Financial Director of the company.
It was at Evans Industries that he met his beloved wife Patricia, or Patty as he called her, and he was “the captain of her heart”. Barry and Patty shared many similar passions and they eventually built a home on the peaceful island of Matlacha, Florida. Barry started a successful accounting practice and only just retired last year. Barry and Patty were inseparable partners until her passing in 2010.
In 1980 Barry joined in purchasing and racing the sailboat “Shamrock”, kept at Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit. It was his pride and joy. Shamrock won the coveted Bayview Mackinac race in 1990, along with many other awards and escapades.
Barry is preceded in death by his father Lewis G. Woodrow, his mother Ruby (Lunger) Larson, his sister Judy Woodrow and his beloved wife Patricia Woodrow. He left behind two step daughters, Deb Kilpatrick of Tennessee and Kelly Werback of Michigan.
His wishes for cremation will be honored and his life will be celebrated with a service held at his treasured Bayview Yacht Club, 100 Clairpointe Street, Detroit, Michigan at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 11, 2017. In lieu of flowers, Barry would have appreciated donations to the Junior Sailing Club at Bayview Yacht Club.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CoralRidgeFuneralHome.com for the Woodrow family.
