Diane Claire Hastings (24 year Cancer survivor), 75, of Three Mile Bay, NY passed away on April 26, 2018 in Cape Coral, FL. Diane was born in Brooklyn, NY to Edward P. Hoffman and Helen (Classen) Hoffman on June 21, 1942. Diane taught Kindergarten and First Grade for 36 years at the Altmar Elementary School in the A-P-W District. Diane’s passion was teaching children to read and to be great learners. She loved the sound of children’s laughter even if it was loud. Diane shot trap with her husband Les; they golfed, fished on their charter boat on Lake Ontario, traveled to the Caribbean Islands as well as to Hawaii. Diane and her husband Leslie M. (deceased April 7, 2018) retired to Pine Island, FL for the winters. They enjoyed boating; photography of nature, especially in Ding Darling Preserve and exploring all that Florida had to offer. Diane was an exceptional quilter in Pine Island Cove with the Nimble Thimble Quilters. She developed many meaningful friendships with the quilting group ladies as well as others in the Park Community.
Diane is survived by her daughter, Elaine Diane Hastings-Gauthier; Brother Edward P. Hoffman (Laura) and his two children Ted and Andrew and their families. Les and Diane’s friends have been a great source of support to Elaina as she closes one chapter and starts a new one.
No services will be held. A memorial will be planned in the summer for friends and family in Northern, NY as well as another in the fall for friends and family in Pine Island Cove.
A memorial scholarship fund will be formed in Diane’s name for students pursuing an education degree in Elementary Education.
Please make donations to remember Diane to Galisano’s Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida; 9981 S. Healthpark Dr., Fort Myers, FL. 33908.
