Elvis “The King of the Island” spent the entirety of his life on Pine Island when his family moved here when he was just a baby. He attended Pine Island Elementary School and graduated from North Fort Myers High School in 1976. Always the hardworker, from the time he was a youngster, Elvis always had a job and worked to be the best provider possible. When his children were growing up he was a coach and
board member for the Pine Island Little League.
Elvis loved his family and did anything and everything he could do to make sure they were always provided for and taken care of. He had a soft heart and loved to make people laugh, especially his wife Mary Lou. One of his favorite things to do was make up silly love songs just to get a smile or laugh out of her. Elvis loved his community and took pride in helping his fellow islanders.
Outside of his family and friends, Elvis’ passion was cars and trucks. This passion led to the very successful body shop on Pine Island, Long’s Paint and Body Shop. For over 40 years his business was a place that everyone (especially locals) knew they could depend on for top of the line results for whatever their auto body needs were. Elvis was so appreciative to the people of Pine Island for their support and
patronage of his business. Elvis’ love for trucks led to him spending quite a bit of time restoring a 1995 Chevy Silverado that he was quite proud of. Elvis loved Chevys so much that he named one of his puppies Chevy and that was his “baby”. He also was a tried and true Miami Dolphins fan. Win or lose-it didn’t matter to Elvis, that was his team and he was a proud fan.
Elvis will be remembered for many things, but the first thing that comes to mind when Elvis’ family thinks of him is his generous heart and the fact that he was a good man.
The family is grateful for all of the love and support they have received. Services will be held at Pine Island United Methodist Church in Bokeelia, Florida on May 20, 2023 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please remember Elvis by making a donation to The Bobby Holloway Memorial Fund, PO Box 712, St. James City, FL 33956.
