It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of James E. “Eddie” Miller, age 87, who passed away peacefully at his home in Cape Coral, FL, on January 14, 2026, surrounded by close family. Eddie was born on December 3, 1938, in Ritchie County, WV, a son of the late James and Gertrude (Smith) Miller.
Throughout his working years in West Virginia, Eddie held several memorable and varied jobs before retiring from GE Plastics as a Electronic Engineering Technician. In his early years, he worked at Stewart Field, Fairmont Foods, State of WV (construction of I-77) and Rhodes Trucking. Family and friends delighted in the many stories he shared from these experiences.
Most notably, Eddie was employed with Marbon Chemicals beginning in the 1960s. As the company evolved—becoming Borg-Warner Chemicals and later GE Plastics—so did Eddie. Beginning in the storeroom, his strong work ethic and drive led him into maintenance, then an electrician and ultimately into electronics engineering. He retired from GE Plastics in 1994, marking the culmination of a long and dedicated career.
A man of boundless energy, Eddie was also a successful stock car racecar driver in the 1960s and enjoyed boating, water skiing, motorcycles, travel, and a deep love of nature. While Eddie possessed many talents and interests, his greatest passion was music. He picked up his first guitar at the age of 14 and had a natural ear for music, learning to play several instruments. For many years he had a band called Stateline Express that was quite popular throughout the Ohio Valley. Music also brought him together with the love of his life, Judy. They were married in 1979. Judy joined the band and they entertained for many years until his retirement.
Following retirement, Eddie and Judy, moved to Edinburg, Texas, traveled 49 states, Canada, and Mexico, sight-seeing and entertaining tens of thousands of people performing as a duo called Miller Tyme. They lived in Texas for 17 yrs. In 2011, they moved to Cape Coral, FL, to be closer to family. Eddie continued singing and playing music until a stroke in 2017 left him unable to do so.
Throughout his life, he touched countless people with his kindness, intelligence, humor, charm, and wit.
Eddie is survived by his loving wife of 48 yrs, Judy (Hupp) Miller; one son, Harold “Eric” Schau (Allyson) of Cape Coral, FL; three daughters, Melissa Signorelli (Nick) of Cape Coral, FL , Cindy Bandy (Scott) of Speedwell, TN, and Kim Flanigan of Vienna, WV; one brother, Roger Miller (Anita) of Parkersburg, WV; one brother-in-law Raymond Davis of Poland, OH; and three sisters-in-law, Anita Miller, Linda Miller and Sandra Sutton. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by his brother Bob Miller of Davisville, WV, a daughter, Robin Walker of Whipple, OH and a granddaughter Alyson Schau of Harrisville, WV.
The family would like to give a sincere thanks to the entire Hope Hospice team for their unparalleled care and compassion.
Eddie was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor and friend. He was a shining star to anyone that was fortunate enough to know him and will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
There will be no funeral services at this time. A celebration of life will be announced in the future. At a later date, his final resting place will be in the Good Shepherd Garden at Coral Ridge Cemetery in Cape Coral, FL.
