Jerome Joseph Ladner, “Jerry”, passed away on September 9, 2023 at the age of 79 with his loving family surrounding him. He was the cherished husband to Patty, awesome father to Stephen, Debbie Jo and Kristy, father in law to Brian, as well as the greatest PePa to Eric, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Jessica and Jordyn.
He fought the long battle of cancer for 12 years and was determined if he had to live with cancer it was going to be “under his terms”. There is no one who fought it more optimistically and with Grace than Jerry.
Jerry was raised in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Margaret Ladner along with his siblings, Lawrence “Larry” and Adrienne. He moved to Cape Coral in 1974 and in 1980 met his wife Patty, with God’s hand in it, at church, and they married on May 23, 1982.
Jerry started his adult life as an electrical engineer but after only two years of that he realized he was too much of a people person to be happy behind a desk. He soon ventured into real estate, as this matched his “social butterfly” persona, this career move was a perfect match for him. Jerry loved his family first but he couldn’t get enough about learning his ancestry, learning railroad history and Cape Coral history. He was always reading and learning. He was a wealth of knowledge and was a big part of Cape Coral’s development in the early years. After he moved here he was a Jaycee, he opened his own real estate office and was a past president of the Board of Realtors as well as serving on many city boards. He later went on to being a title examiner. He was part of the development of the Railroad Museum of South Florida and was very proud of his involvement with the Train Village at Lakes Park. He faithfully volunteered there until he couldn’t do it anymore. He also did volunteer work at Grace Church which was his spiritual home that he loved.
But his favorite thing was to be with family. Camping, cruises and family reunions was what he loved. The sweetest words for Jerry to hear was “Dad help”, and it wasn’t just from his kids, it was from anyone, family or friend. We will truly and deeply miss our Mr. Fix It, but we know he’s taught us well.
