John was born in Minneapolis, MN on 11/20/1937. He was the last of 5 children born to Bud and Rose Clemens. He graduated from DeLasalle High School and chose to enter the Air Force. He came home from basic training and married the love of his life Mary Mahoney. He passed on 1/20/2024.
Mary was also born in Minneapolis, MN on 6/26/1937. She was the first of 4 children born to Dan and Mary Mahoney. She went to St. Anthony’s high school and then attended Cosmetology school. She was a beauty queen for Crystal, Minnesota and remained a stunningly beautiful woman until her passing on 2/9/24.
They were rarely apart. Other than John’s assignments with the military where he couldn’t have her along, they remained side by side for 66 ½ years of marriage. To this marriage, 4 children were born at various Air Force bases. Dan and Cindy in Washington, Mary in England and John in California. Many family camping trips were experienced. John retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service and the family settled in Rochester, MN.
John and Mary moved to Florida in 1989. They lived on Pine Island the entire time they resided in Florida. They particularly enjoyed their life on the island. But also, they enjoyed going on cruises! 90 of them to be exact! When not cruising, they could be found together at home, the Moose, The Legion or the VFW. They were surrounded by a large circle of close friends in and around St. James City.
Special thank you to Del, Jan and Hope Hospice. Please send any monetary memorials to the American Legion, Moose or VFW.
A celebration of their lives will be held at The American Legion at 4106 Stringfellow Road in St. James City, FL 33956 on April 10th, 2024 at 1 pm.
