Joseph (Joe) Darrell Roll, age 79, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024. From Central City, KY, Joe raised his family in Whiteford, MD and loved his retirement in Cape Coral, FL. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Johanna Roll (née Gonnsen), his son Darrell Roll, his daughter-in-law Dyana Roll, their son Owen Roll, and daughter Amy Rush, and his son-in-law Carl Rush.
Joe was a dedicated family man who enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing trips, and any time near water; be it on a lake, in the ocean, or by the pool. He was particularly fond of cruising with family and friends where all the excursions and meals were already planned. Joe loved to cook (or grill or smoke) a main course while family went to and fro making sides and getting offered small bites to taste test. Joe got many of his ideas from the numerous cooking shows he watched while on the treadmill.
He was an avid educator teaching in the Maryland public school system for 36 years. A voracious reader, he loved public libraries and would come home with bags full of books. But he was very persnickety about what he read, often waiting months for a loan from the library. In addition, he spent many early mornings at the computer scouring the news and finishing the daily crossword puzzle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hope Hospice or a cause that is dear to you.
