A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Martin graduated from Churchland High School, attended college, and lived in the Tidewater Virginia area for many years before moving to Washington, DC in 1985. Martin had a diverse, successful career as a civilian working for the US Navy. He held many prestigious jobs including several years as a Contracting Officer to build and repair naval ships, working in the Pentagon in support of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, and as the Acquisition Director for Cruise Missiles and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Joint Program Office. During time off, he and his wife, Rosa, spent many wonderful days fishing on the Outer Banks with friends and visiting family in Florida. After retiring and moving to Cape Coral, FL in 1996, he spent a lot of time boating and fishing in the waters surrounding SW Florida. He also enjoyed target shooting as a member of a local sportsman club.
Martin is survived by his beloved wife Rosa (nicknamed Sam), brother Lee Yaffey (Jill), sister Mina Reynolds, daughters Karen McPeeks (Jerry) and Kristen Mertz (Vince), grandchildren Chelsea Mullins (Wes), Seth Mertz (Hannah), and Sarah Silva (Kevin), and 3 great grandchildren, Evelyn Mullins, Theodore Mertz, and Elora Mertz.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 950 Chiquita Blvd S, Cape Coral, FL 33991, on Thursday, February 19th from 11 to 12pm with service to follow.
In addition to services in Cape Coral, another will be held in Virginia to be scheduled.
