

She was born January 27, 1924, in Youngstown, OH, to Harry and Viola Stewart.
Ruth enlisted in the Navy in 1944, where she had six weeks of basic training at Hunter College in Bronx, NY, followed by hospital corps training at Bethesda Naval Hospital, MD. She served in Boston, MA, at the Chelsea Naval Hospital (230 The Fenway) and the Boston Navy Yard as a Pharmacist Mate. Ruth met her future husband, Peter, at the Navy Yard. They were married in Youngstown, OH, in 1946.
Ruth and Peter moved to New York City thereafter, and then to Massapequa Park, NY in 1954. She worked as an OR nurse at Brunswick General Hospital, Amityville, NY, and as an office nurse for private ENT doctors.
Ruth was a member of WAVES National Unit 56 of Venice, FL. Previously, she had been a member of the American Legion Post 110, Port Charlotte, FL, and was a Barber Shop singer with Pride of Charlotte TuneMakers.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Harry Edward of NYC, NY and Peter N. of Coral Springs, FL, her daughter-in-law, Joanie, and three grandchildren, Harvey, Anthony and Jennifer, all of Coral Springs.
