Born on September 25, 1949, in Barbados to the late Cecil and Helen (Thompson) Springer, Zelma carried the heart of her island home with her throughout her life—its warmth, its resilience, and its deep love of family.
For Zelma, family was always at the center of everything. She was a nurturing mother and a devoted Nana whose presence made every gathering feel fuller, warmer, and more joyful. Her kitchen was often the heart of the home, filled with the comforting aromas of her cooking and baking, each dish prepared with the kind of love only she could give.
A talented seamstress, Zelma brought creativity and care to her work, stitching together not only garments but memories—each piece a reflection of her patience, skill, and generosity. In her quieter moments, she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved sitting on her patio, taking in the world around her, and sharing stories of her childhood in Barbados. Her reminiscing was more than storytelling; it was a way of passing down history, humor, and wisdom to those she loved.
Zelma’s gentle spirit, her devotion to her family, and her ability to find beauty in everyday moments will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, in the traditions she nurtured, and in the love she gave so freely. Zelma now joins her beloved Victor, the love of her life, who passed away in September.
Zelma is survived by her loving daughters, Nicole Springer and Tonya Licorish; grandchildren; siblings; nieces and nephews; as well as many extended family members and friends.
A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 10, 2025 at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, Cape Coral, FL. A Celebration of Zelma’s Life will be held at 1:00 PM inside the funeral home. Following the services the family invites everyone to stay and enjoy a meal in remembrance of Zelma M. Licorish.
