Brooke attended Ladywood St. Agnes High School and St. Joseph College.
When she lived in Washington DC she was a sous chef for Governor W. Averell Harriman. She helped create Peanut Pâté recipe for President Jimmy Carter. In Indianapolis she worked for UPS in customer service retiring after 25 years.
Brooke was a member of Social Justice Committee, volunteer with Alexandria, VA Commission on Status of Women, volunteer with Creative Community for Nonviolence and Homelessness Prevention Program, served on the Center of Personal Growth and Community Development board and she was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church.
Brooke was very proud of her Irish heritage. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining with family and friends. Brooke loved vacationing in Gulf Shores, AL. She cherished spending time with her grandsons. Gammy definitely was Zane’s #1 FAN at all of his football games!
Brooke was a dedicated volunteer and spent many years serving at St.Vincent de Paul along with feeding and helping the homeless.
Brooke is survived by her son Jhason L. Newman (Ayesha); her brother Robert Shallenberger, Jr., her brother Patrick Shallenberger (Kris) and her sister Mary Shallenberger; her grandsons Tavin and Zane, her nephew Patrick Shallenberger, Jr. and her niece Erin Shallenberger.
A visitation for Brooke will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Livestream can be views at stmonicaindy.org.
