Carol Lou Overly

On April 24, 2025 Carol Lou Overly passed away at home, with her family surrounding her, to be with her heavenly Father. Carol was born on November 27, 1953 at St. Joseph Hospital in Logansport, IN to Betty Jane Herrick (Simpson) and Robert Neal 'Buck' Herrick, residents of Royal Center, IN. Carol had a twin sister Cheryl Sue and an older Brother John, who is about three years older than them.

Carol lived in Royal Center and attended Royal Center Elementary School, where she then moved on to graduate from Pioneer Jr. Sr High School in 1971.

It was during her last two years of high school that Carol had decided she wanted to pursue a career in nursing. During that time she had worked at Winamac Hospital as a candy striper. Once she graduated she enrolled at Ivy Tech in the nursing program and received her LPN license. After a small break, she had transferred to Indiana University Kokomo, where she graduated in 1978 with her bachelors in nursing and continued to have a 30 year career as a registered nurse. In those 30 years, she worked in Tupelo, MS, Ypsilanti, MI, Lavonia, MI, Indianapolis, IN and Carmel, IN.

In junior high school, Carol became friends with Steve Overly, who had been a fellow classmate since first grade. Their junior year of high school, they became "steadies" and would continue that relationship into college. After a couple of break ups, Steve and Carol got back together for good and got married on August 31, 1974. In 1975, they had their first born, Craig Stephen and later gave birth to a little girl, Megan Marie in 1981. This year would have been Steve and Carol's 51st wedding anniversary, but that is nowhere near the timeframe of their love.

Carol was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and was originally only given 6 weeks to 18 months to live. She fought and managed to survive for 8 years before the cancer won. The trials she faced in those 8 years she faced with a quiet strength that most people can only hope for. She was very thankful to her oncology team who assisted her in her fight, as well as the hospice team who helped in making her final transition easier.

Carol leaves behind her husband, Stephen Overly, her son, Craig Overly, her daughter, Megan Overly, her two granddaughters Emma Overly and Maci Voland, her sister Cheryl Ide (David), brother John Herrick (Gwen) and many cousins, nieces and her nephew.
