Carolyn was a loving, caring, and generous wife, mother, and grandmother who would do anything for her children and grandchildren. Family was the center of her world. Her greatest joy came from having all three of her sons move their families back to live in Carmel, and from the time they were able to spend together at each other's nearby homes.
She truly loved living watching her family and the community grow. She and her husband, Tom, shared over 50 years together, and were married over 48 years. They had a very loving relationship based on support, patience, communicating and understanding each other's needs.
Carolyn was known for always doing the little things that meant the most, especially for her grandchildren. She never missed a chance to make holidays special, lovingly putting together Easter baskets and Christmas stockings every year, each filled with care and thoughtfulness. She made a point to attend as many of her grandchildren’s sporting events as possible. She deeply loved family gatherings and celebrations, especially cherished the pool parties at her oldest son’s home, where everyone could be together, and where laughter, conversations, and camaraderie filled the day.
Carolyn loved to travel with her husband. Together, they took four or five trips each year, usually seeking clear, warm snorkeling waters in the Bahamas, Caribbean, and Hawaii. As the official family travel agent, she was the unquestioned guru of timeshares and travel planning. She had an exceptional talent for organizing trips and creating memorable family vacations.
Marco Island held a special place in her heart, extended visits there were spent creating cherished moments, many of which were with her children and grandchildren.
Watching pelicans, osprey, and dolphins by day, and sunsets each evening, was especially enjoyable.
Carolyn was a lifelong Purdue Fan and Graduate. It was at Purdue University that she met her husband, Tom. At Purdue, she was also the Chapter President and a very proud member of the Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) sorority.
In addition to her devotion to family, Carolyn treasured her friendships and shared a special bond with her lady's euchre group, a close-knit circle of longtime friends who brought her much laughter and joy over the years.
Carolyn was born in Richmond, Virginia, and then grew up in Seymour, IN, where she enjoyed telling how she attended high school with John Mellencamp.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Clifton (“Papa”) Parks; her mother, Kathleen (“Kitty”) Parks; and her brother, Stephen Parks.
She is survived by her husband, Tom (72); her three sons, Chris (47) (Jen), Paul (45) (Molly), and Ryan (40); and her eight beloved grandchildren: Noah (16), Sam (14), Eli (13), Clara (11), Ben (10), Austin (10), Kayla (8), and Kaitlyn (5).
Carolyn’s three sons are forever grateful for the love, dedication, and care she so selflessly provided throughout her life. She took joy in knowing that she would live on through her three sons and eight grandchildren. Her warmth, devotion, humor, leadership, and generous spirit will be remembered forever.
Carolyn courageously fought melanoma in the last 12 months of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that memorial contributions be given to "The Melanoma Research Alliance" in Carolyn’s memory.
100% percent of all contributions go directly to providing research grants for the study of and fight against melanoma.
Visitation followed by the Funeral Service and Reception, will be held, Saturday February 7th, starting at 3:00pm followed by a celebration of life at 4:30pm at Leppert Mortuary Carmel Chapel at 900 N. Rangeline Road.
