

Charles D. “Chuck” Smith, 80, of Carmel, passed away May 3, 2023. He was born October 21, 1942 in Attica, Indiana to the late Charles D. and Norma Jean (Wagoner) Smith. He was a graduate of Fishers High School. His employers included American Aggregates, Builders Concrete, and Hall & House Lumber. He belonged to a variety of clubs, including the NRA, Masonic Lodge Fishers, IN (Hamilton Lodge No 533 F. &A.M.), St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Rock Steady Boxing, and the American Legion in Monticello, IN.
Chuck and his wife Jennie met at Northern Beach after he came home from the military where he served 2 years in Germany. They were married on February 8, 1964. They celebrated their 59th Anniversary this year.
Chuck was an avid fisherman competing in Bass Tournaments in Central Indiana. He loved boating, camping, hunting, skeet shooting, archery, bird watching, golf, and photography.
Plum Creek Golf Course provided Chuck and Jennie with the most beautiful blessing of friends. During Covid, they founded Friday Family to survive the isolation of Covid. They met at each other’s homes taking turns to host. Parkinson’s was taking a toll on his life, but he was one not to complain. He answered comments with “It’s just a part of life.”
Chuck is survived by his wife, Jennie Anderson Smith; sons Bradley Carl Smith and Charles D. Smith, Jr.; daughter-in-law Gebie Smith; sister Loretta McTaggert; brothers, Daniel Smith, and Darrell Smith; four grandchildren, Garret Smith (Harlee) and Claire Smith, and Cristan Smith and Jamilah Pelarios. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sheila Smith Harrell (Ron), his brother-in-law Don McTaggert, and sister-in-law Tina Smith, and his great-nephews Levi and Evan McTaggert.
