Edna Winchell

Edna King Morrison Winchell 88, of Carmel, departed this life Friday, November 13, 2020 in Carmel. She was born January 6, 1932 in Indianapolis to the late Guy Everett and Melissa (Johnstone) Morrison. Judie had attended Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts and then graduated from Indiana University. Judie loved theatre and music and worked as the general manager of The Indianapolis Civic Theatre. She was a master at getting things done the right way and enjoyed helping others in need. She loved the anticipation and preparation of the show. Throughout her life she unselfishly gave of herself as a volunteer and mentor to The Indianapolis Women’s Club, The Children’s Bureau, Methodist Hospital, The Salvation Army, Sunnyside Guild, The Contemporary Club, The Player’s Club, Visiting Nurses and Christamore House Guild. Judie relaxed by watching sports of all sorts and was the biggest IU Basketball and Bobby Knight fan you would ever meet. She was quite the golfer in her day was an accomplished Bridge partner at the Indianapolis Bridge Center, and always loved learning other’s life’s stories. Judie was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dan R. Winchell in 2002; her dear brother, Guy Everett Morrison, Jr. and her devoted golden retriever, Winston. Judie is survived by her loving daughter, Melissa (Steve) Hancock; beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Hancock, William (Emily) Hancock; dear great-grandchildren, Hallie and Bryce Hancock; her devoted sister, Mrs. Thomas E. “Cookie” Goris and beloved nieces and nephews, Tom (Pam) Goris, Meg (Rob) Goris and Tamara Goris, Mary Anne (Jim) Machin and James Winchell as well as a host of great nieces, nephews and dear friends. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions in Judie’s name are suggested to: Paradigm Hospice, Senior One Care or to Indyhumane.
