Nécrologie de Gordon Lee Sims
The oldest son of seven children, loving husband, amazing father, and adored Opa; With his family by his side, Gordon Sims went to be with his heavenly Father on October 10, 2020. Gordon was born June 20, 1938, in Plainfield, IN. He grew up in a large family of seven. His mother and father, George and Melba Sims, instilled in him the appreciation of the simple things in life and the value of being a hard worker. Through these teachings, Gordon developed a true love of nature. Like his father, he was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, the family protector, and walked this earth with a kind heart to all. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves and honored his country. A selfless giver, he was a faithful, consistent blood donor, donating gallons of blood to help/save others. He cherished his alma mater, Indiana University and through the years was a fierce supporter and follower of the football and basketball teams. Upon graduating, he married his highschool sweetheart and the love of his life, Margie (Tyler). They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He was a successful Commercial Real Estate Appraiser, raised four children, and blessed his family by providing a childhood that most kids could only dream of, a lifetime filled with love and devotion. An affinity for the simple things, you could often find him tending to his backyard, his beloved bluebirds, and appreciating nature. If he wasn’t in the backyard, it was safe to say he was probably out attending one of the grandchildren’s many events. He kept in shape by playing tennis up until the age of 81 and consistently worked out at his local fitness center. Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Margie, and children: Kregg Sims (Lisa), son-in-law Mike Jacobs, Kristin Leonard (Tom), Amy Poteet (Jeff). Grandchildren: Avery, Cooper, Hannah, Maxwell, Wyatt, Emma, Stella, and Parker. Grandchildren by marriage: Michael and Maddy. Siblings: Sharon Arthur, Bill (Donna) Sims, Randy (Linda) Sims, Becky Jennings, Debby McElhinney (Lane), and Donna Jo Sims (DoraLee). Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, George and Melba Sims, and his daughter, Dana Jacobs. A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24th. Calling will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a service following at 1:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary – Carmel Chapel, 900 N. Rangeline Road, Carmel, Indiana 46032.
