

Jewel Varner Jordan, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2021, at Copper Trace in Westfield, IN. She was the wife of the late Thomas N. Jordan, a Korean war veteran, to whom she married on July 1, 1950. Born September 14, 1931, near Montgomery, AL, Jewel was the daughter of the late Lawrence William Varner and Flora Clark Varner. Jewel grew up on her family’s farm on Big Ridge in Hixson, TN and was a 1949 graduate of Hixson High School, where she met her husband. As a high school senior, Jewel played on the basketball team and was elected Miss Hixson High School. She was also a recipient of the DAR Good Citizens Award and the Danforth Award.
Jewel went on to become a supervisor at the Davenport Hosiery Mill and later in life worked for Red Food Stores and Eckerd Pharmacy. She was a longtime resident of Chattanooga, moving to Carmel, IN in 2004. Jewel enjoyed sewing and crafts. She was an excellent seamstress and for many years enjoyed designing her own clothing. Jewel was a devout Christian, who loved reading the Bible daily and studying scripture. Over the span of her lifetime, she was a Daughter, Sister, Friend, Aunt, Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She cherished each of these roles and loved her family deeply.
She is survived by her two children: Jeffery (Kitrina) of Houston, TX and Jennifer Raver (Lee) of Carmel, IN. Jewel was grandmother to Jenna Tracy, Jordan Raver, Erin Raver and Devyn Raver. Preceding her in death were her four siblings: Paul Varner, Lena Clayton, Dorothy (Dot) Crutcher and Lawrence (LC) Varner.
The family expresses its deepest gratitude to Leppert Mortuary and Crematory Services of Carmel, IN for their coordination of services, as well as the staff of Copper Trace in Westfield, IN for the compassionate care given to our Mother during the months prior to her passing. Rest easy Jewel, your journey is complete.
