

Judith Anne Sturgis, age 87, of Carmel, Indiana died Monday afternoon at Woodland Terrace of Carmel, an assisted living facility. Born October 26, 1938, in Unionville, Indiana, she was the daughter of Joseph and Pauline Richardson. She lived most of her life in Ellettsville, Indiana, moving to Bloomington, Indiana in 1984 and finally Carmel, Indiana in 2023. She was a kind soul and dedicated to her family (immediate and extended) on both the Richardson/Fleener side and the Sturgis side. Her baking skills were second to none and she was especially known for her cherry pie as well as the decorated birthday cakes and holiday cookies she shared with many. She and her husband, Frank, worked together in their family business – Sturgis Northside Marathon – for many years. She handled the daily bookkeeping and administration of the business while Frank focused on the operation of the business.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frank V. Sturgis Jr., whom she married on August 2, 1958, and her two sons and their wives, Jeffrey and Dena Sturgis of Westfield, Indiana and Mark and Angela Sturgis of Yorktown, Indiana; four grandchildren, Lauren (Patrick) Doran of Fishers, Steven (Melanie) Sturgis of Noblesville, Natalie (Will) Gorgol of Westfield, and Chandler (Olivia) Sturgis of Greenfield; four great grandchildren, Jackson Cripe and Gabriella Doran of Fishers, Franklin Sturgis of Noblesville, and Graham Sturgis of Greenfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Ronald Richardson, who died in 1985. Leppert Mortuary is coordinating her entombment in a mausoleum at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington, Indiana. A celebration of life will be held for friends and family in the Spring.
