Larry was born in Denton, Texas, November 16, 1956 to Tillman and Marjorie Uland (Police Officer and School Teacher, respectively). Larry enjoyed his time in the Boy Scouts, as a young Cub Scout and eventually as an Eagle Scout. He also had fond memories of Philmont Scout Ranch and Camp Soroptimist, where he worked several summers as a teen. Larry was a 1975 graduate of Denton High School. He excelled in drama and drumming, and though offered a full percussion scholarship to North Texas State University, Larry attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and became part of the Long Gray Line in 1979. As a Commissioned Military Officer in the United States Army, Captain Larry Uland served at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as part of the 2nd of the 327th Infantry Battalion, C Company Commander. Larry was proud to be part of the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles), Air Assault, and an Airborne Ranger. He served abroad as part of a Multinational Peacekeeping Force in the Sinai Desert. He also led his men in many covert operations.
Although Larry had several careers, he often said his proudest accomplishment was his seven children. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by his former wife of 33 years Mary Elizabeth Cole Uland, seven children: Meredith (Ernest), Lincoln, Joseph, Lydia, Margaret (Stefano), Joyce (Robert), Victor (Kaylee), his two brothers: Harry (Jeri) and Garry (Sharon), his cousins: Leonard, Robert, Alice, and Donna, and many nieces and nephews.
Larry found great joy in sharing the Gospel, praying for others, and leading people to the Lord Jesus Christ. Though we are grieving his absence, we are rejoicing that Larry is now home with his Savior. Among his final words were “Enjoying His Grace”!
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, May 4th, 4-6 pm at Leppert Mortuary, 900 North Rangeline Road, Carmel, Indiana, 46032
