Lawrence Leonard Moran, age 96, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on March 6, 2026. A compassionate, devoted, faithful, and hard-working man, Larry will be remembered for the steady love he gave to his family, the strength of his faith, and the quiet example he set throughout his life.
Born in Madison, Wisconsin on December 14, 1929, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence Leonard and Meta Amelia (Voss) Moran. He grew up and attended St Bernard’s Catholic School and went on to graduate from Madison East High School.
Upon graduation from High School, Larry joined the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War aboard the USS Tarawa aircraft carrier. He was proud to have served his country. After returning from the Navy, he graduated from Madison Business College.
Larry worked in accounting and medical sales his entire career. He moved his family to Carmel in 1971 so that he could support the construction and establishment of the Obstetrics and Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit at St. Vincent Hospital.
He married Verda M. Fenley on April 16, 1955 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Madison. They were married for over 70 years.
Retiring in 1997, Larry and Verda loved to travel and experience different cultures in their RV. He especially loved exploring the West and making many friends along the way. One of Larry’s great joys was the opportunity to participate in an Honor Flight. Flight #20 October 15, 2016. He rarely passed on an opportunity to go fishing, and he always supported his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in all of their own endeavors and adventures.
Larry was very active at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus and earned his Fourth Degree. He prayed the Rosary daily and encouraged all he loved to follow Jesus and to trust in the Lord. He also supported the church’s Merciful Help Center in any way he could.
Larry is survived by his wife, Verda; his children, Patrick James Moran (Vicki), Kenneth Lawrence Moran, Susan Marie McClure (Tim), John Joseph Moran (Jeanine), and Gregory David Moran (Lisa); 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Grych (Joe), Phyllis Morehouse (Pete), Ginny Vetter (Dick), Kathy Moran, and his brother, Fr. Donald Moran.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on March 11th from 9:30am 11:00am. Mass at 11:00am with burial at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Larry’s name to the O’Connor House and/or Merciful Help Center.
