Orville Edwin Bose, 83, of Carmel, Indiana departed this life Friday, July 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Orville was born March 4, 1938 in Hymera, Indiana to the late Floyd Eugene and Rachael Jane (Walters) Bose. He was raised in Sullivan County and learned to play basketball at a young age. Upon graduation from Hymera High School, where Orville had an outstanding basketball career, he was welcomed to Butler University and the basketball team by legendary Coach Tony Hinkle. He represented Butler in the 1958 and 1959 NIT Tournament. Orville’s passion for basketball culminated with his induction into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019. Orville graduated from Butler in 1960 with a degree in education. He then furthered his studies at Indiana University earning a master’s and specialist degree in education and administration. For over 35 years, Orville served in the Indiana School Systems, including North Vernon, North Vermillion, and Fairfield. He worked in various roles, including teacher-coach, principal, and superintendent. As an exceptional teacher, coach, and administrator, he challenged his students to be their best in all of their endeavors. Orville was a kind and gentle soul who put his faith and family first in all that he did. He was a longtime and dedicated member of North Central Church of Christ. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and morning coffee with friends. He was happiest though, and never missed an opportunity, to make a memory with his family and grandchildren. Orville was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Mark Phillips; siblings, Dennis Bose, Rosalie Gabbard, Connie Asbury and infant brother, William Bose. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dixie Bose; his devoted daughters, Michelle (Gary) Nead, Nancy Phillips and Teresa (David) Smith; his grandchildren, Michael & Matthew Nead, Kyle & Mackenzie Phillips and Chloe & Caitlyn Smith and great-grandchildren. Visitation for Orville will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 17th at North Central Church of Christ and conclude at time of service beginning at 11:00 am.
