Patsy Ann Hammond, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cherished friend passed away on October 15, 2025. A week before her death, she was radiant while surrounded by her family celebrating her 70th birthday.
Born in Dayton, Ohio to Paul and Jean Houser on October 5, 1955. She is survived by her loving husband, Dale Hammond; sons Kevin (Ellen) Hammond and Jere (Amber) Kincaid and daughters Lisa (Bobby) Hodge and Teresa (Dave) Olson. Mimi’s beloved grandchildren: Elizabeth, Eli, Grant, Addie, Nick, Zach, Jake, Brooke, Stephanie, Claire, Jackson; and great grandchildren Jacoby and Carly. She is also survived by her siblings, Karen Hamlet, Jill Taguacta and Mark Houser. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Jean Houser, her brother David and her cherished son, Joshua Hammond.
In 1980, Patsy met the love of her life, Dale and they married in July 1982. Her beauty, wit and intelligence as well as their shared interests made him quickly fall in love with her. In their 45 years as a couple, you often heard Dale call Patsy “Babe” followed by her replying, “Yes, My Sweets”.
Patsy worked as a court reporter for Marion County Civil Courts for 33 years. She was devoted to her work and was respected beyond measure by those she worked with. It was even said by one of her judges, they needed to figure out a way to clone Patsy. While being eligible for disability for nearly 20 years, she continued to work until her planned retirement later this year.
Now, for her love of all things sports and boy, did she love sports. Patsy was a multi-sport varsity player growing up continuing her athleticism with bowling (avg 202), softball and running. She completed 4 marathons including the New York Marathon as well as many countless mini marathons. She could even outrun her sons. You would not know this book, judging by the cover, as a rare disease was diagnosed at the age of 51. There was not a bigger Reds or Pacers fan than Patsy.
Her most cherished treasures weren’t things, they were her people, The Hammond Clan. She loved Dale with passion, her sons and daughters fiercely and her grandchildren beyond measure. She was everyone’s biggest cheerleader. Despite her debilitating disease, she lived courageously and brilliantly with the spirit of a fighter.
2 Timothy 4:7- I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
A celebration of Patsy’s life will be held at Leppert Mortuary-Carmel Chapel on Thursday October 23, 2025. Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00pm with the service immediately following.
Memorial contributions are suggested in Patsy's name to Cure SPG4 Foundation.
