It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of S. Kent Porter, beloved husband, father and Grandad who left us on January 28, 2025 at the age of 74. Kent was born August 14, 1950 in Kearney, Nebraska to the late Sammy Maine and Lorma Jean (Bartels). A man of boundless joy, he was the love of Sug’s life, a devoted father to Jill and proud Grandad to Kerigan, Kellan and Campbell. His infectious laughter, unwavering happiness and genuine spirit lit up every room he entered. He leaves behind a rich legacy of love, guidance and support that will never be forgotten.
Kent was a true lover of life. He was rarely seen without a smile, quick to spread laughter and had a unique gift of making everyone feel welcome. Whether he was teeing off on the golf course, cheering on the Husker’s with much enthusiasm, or his favorite, simply spending time with his family, his passion for life was truly contagious. His positive energy and sense of humor made him a friend to all and his love for his family was unmatched. His warmth, kindness and dedication to his loved ones was felt by everyone who knew him. He had never met a stranger, enjoyed learning other’s life stories and especially loved striking up conversations at the soccer field.
Kent was a graduate of the University of Nebraska Kearney and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was also a dedicated University of Nebraska Athletics Booster. He was a Husker through and through and attended countless Nebraska football games and bowl games. Kent’s passion for golf was well known. He was a familiar face at many golf courses, but his home away from home for 25 years was at Champions Run in Omaha, Nebraska.
Kent was very proud of his three grandchildren and extremely supportive of their endeavors. He took great pride in his entire family, with his proudest moments centered around the accomplishments and happiness of his loved ones. His wife and daughter’s family were his greatest joy and his legacy will continue to live on through them.
Kent is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathy Porter; daughter, Jill (Chris) Pomeroy; his pride and joy, grandchildren, Kerigan, Kellan and Campbell; loving siblings, Jeff (Susan) Porter, Pam (Bill) Patterson, Kristy Porter and Scott (Kim) Porter; as well as a host of extended family, friends and all who were touched by him.
