David was born on October 12, 1967, in Oklahoma City, OK, to Stephen Quarles Rodgers and Janet Gillam Rodgers. After graduating from Northeast High School, David attended Oklahoma State University and ultimately received a Criminal Justice degree in 1994 at the University of Central Oklahoma.
David started his career in law enforcement with the Bethany Police Department in September 1991. During his tenure at Bethany, David attained the rank of Captain. While at Bethany, David was accepted to the renowned FBI National Academy in 2012 and graduated in the 249th Session. Following a 21-year career with Bethany, David chose to pursue his law enforcement ambitions with the Murphy Police Department on September 24, 2012 to be closer to his family. With each department, David fulfilled the role of driving instructor, firearms instructor, Field Training Officer, Tactical Response Team member, media relations liaison, and many more. While at Murphy, David graduated from the Law Enforcement Institute of Texas (LEMIT) Class #281 in June 2018. During his tenure at both departments, David received multiple life saving awards and received countless commendations for his dedication to police work and professionalism. In November 2022, David retired from the Murphy Police Department to venture into the corporate world with HelloFresh as a Senior Manager in Asset Protection and later becoming an Associate Director for Safety/Asset Protection.
David was one of the finest officers you could ever meet. His vivaciousness and zeal for his career were evident every day. His word was his bond. His respect for others was evident in every interaction. His guidance was steady, his counsel honest, his loyalty unshakable. He was a leader officers would follow without hesitation. He led with a sense of calmness, strength , humility, and principles that were true to him. His leadership was admired as he promoted camaraderie, positivity, and cultivated an environment of values that embody the ideals of law enforcement.
David was a superhero to all until March 13, 2003, when he married Amy Lynne Pustejovsky of Dallas, TX, and he became her Superman. He lived life to the fullest with his wife by his side. He devoted himself to her and their two children, West and Kimber. A true testament to their commitment and love for one another was evident over the next nine years as they traveled to and from Texas and Oklahoma to see each other. He was always actively involved in the lives of his children with school, sports, scouting, and being a great dad. He loved to travel, especially to coastal waters. He enjoyed boating, fishing, exploring destinations with adventure, natural beauty, and anything offering a unique experience like scalloping and lobstering. Since each expedition was guaranteed to be an exciting time filled with everlasting memories, friends and family were often invited to take part in his shenanigans.
He was not only committed to his career and family but to his friends and community. Everyone who knew him was captivated by his infectious smile and warm personality. His calm was a settling peace for everyone. You could always find David volunteering at Mary Immaculate School and Church, the Knights of Columbus Hall, and neighborhood events whether it was cooking, cleaning, or lending a helping hand. His end of the school day antics and quick wit will be missed. His unending love and compassion for his family will be forever present, and his strength and sound character will continue to grow in West and Kimber. His legacy will be left in the lives he shaped, the hearts he touched, and the example he set. He leaves behind a standard of leadership, loyalty, and devotion that will continue to guide us. He will be deeply missed, always respected, and forever remembered.
David is survived by his wife, Amy, his son, Preston Wescott “West” Rodgers, his daughters, Kimber Lynne Rodgers and Berkeley Elizabeth Rodgers, his mother, Janet Elaine Gillam Rodgers, and many other relatives.
