Doyce was the firstborn son of Silas Melvin Grant and Fredna Marie Clack-Grant. He was born on March 13, 1940 in Dallas, TX at the old St. Paul Hospital. He had three siblings; a sister, Frenda, and two brothers, Gaylan and Daryl.
Doyce served in the US Army in the 49th Armored Division and was a part of the National Guard. At the age of 21, he married Carolyn Sue Gray and they enjoyed 47 years of marriage. Together they had three children Kevin, Keith, and Kimberly. A devoted family man, he was often taking his family, camping, fishing, and boating; even though he was not fond of camping, fishing, and boating. That’s devotion. His careers took him through banking, car finance, and mortgage finance. However, he may have been best known for being a Garage Sale Detective. If you needed it, he would find it. He loved Gospel Music and would often attend concerts or “singings” where people just got together to sing. He would blend his tenor voice with anyone who wanted to sing. Doyce also served as a guest speaker for the State Mandated Victim Impact Class sponsored by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers). There he shared the greatest tragedy of his life, the death of his daughter Kimberly to a drunk driver. After the death of his wife Sue in 2008, Doyce married Dolores White Burns, a long-time friend. They were together until her death in 2021.
Lovable, affable, and with a winsome personality, his greatest legacy to us all was his loyalty. Loyal to God, the United States, his family, and his friends. He leaves us a great legacy to carry on.
Doyce was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Grant; mother, Fredna Grant; wife, Carolyn Sue; daughter, Kimberly Sue; and wife, Dee.
He is survived by his siblings Frenda (Carter) Bjornlie, Gaylan (Beverly) Grant, Daryl (Alicia) Grant, sons Kevin (Tawnya) Grant and Keith (Rachel) Grant, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and myriad of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.
A visitation for Doyce will be held Monday, September 4, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rhoton Funeral Home, 1511 South Interstate 35E, Carrollton, TX 75006.
