Ivonny Kiess was born in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to Guilherme Germano Kiess and Albertina Almeida Kiess on 12/06/1936. She went to seamstress school in Brazil and studied fashion design before moving to Salt Lake City Utah in 1973. She came with her 2 sons when her youngest son contracted Polio and needed more specialized care. She moved to Dallas in 1982, where she purchased Dallas Tailors & Cleaners. Ivonny was a widow early in life, but had a wonderful relationship of 15 years with Dan McCullum. She was very active and worked out every morning at Bally’s Gym. She also attended Latin clubs where she loved to dance the night away with Dan. At 81, Ivonny hiked to the top of a mountain with her granddaughter. She was full of life and still had many adventures she wanted to pursue. She was taken before she was ready, but left knowing she was well loved by many.
Ivonny Kiess is survived by sons George A. Volante and Jose’ C. Volante, Georges’ wife Katia Volante and their daughter Katerine Volante, and Jose’s soulmate Jeni Drasher.
The Volante family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and doctors for all their help and care of our mother during her battle with leukemia. You gave her hope and she said she “planned to fight and live to 99 with the treatments”.
Ivonny will be missed by many.
