

Richard Harold Gilley, 83, of Carrollton, TX was called to the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2016. Richard was born on July 10, 1933 to the late Harold and Vivian Gilley. He was the middle child of 3 siblings and was preceded in death by his brother TJ.
Richard began his education in Rhinelander, WI attending a 1-room grade school. In high school, he excelled in several sports including football, basketball, and tennis where he earned 2nd place in Wisconsin state mixed doubles. At the University of Wisconsin, he earned a degree in electrical engineering and met his wife, Marjean. After graduation and ROTC, he was deployed to Germany. After completing his military service he moved to Chicago working for Motorola. He attended night school and earned a MBA degree from the University of Chicago. He later moved to Texas to serve as Director of Engineering for MetroCel Communications during their entrance to the cellular radio business. Additionally, Richard had a strong calling to serve others and he joined the St. Vincent de Paul Society at Mary Immaculate Church where he and his wife ran the food pantry for 10 years serving needy families. He also provided spiritual care for patients at RHD Hospital in Farmers Branch for 20 years and Trinity Medical Center in Carrollton for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Marjean, of 60 years, 3 children: Michael (Lisa Bohné), Mariann Newberry, and David; 5 grand children; 1 great grand child; his sister Donna (Dr. Walter) Gager, and many nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at Rhoton Funeral Home (1511 I-35E, Carrollton, TX phone: 972-242-5261) on Sunday, July 24th at 7pm. The funeral will be held at Mary Immaculate Church in Farmers Branch on Monday, July 25 at 10am.
