Roy A. Ferguson, III left this world suddenly and most unexpectedly on February 18, 2013. Loyal, loving, always smiling, he never met a stranger. He always seemed to be the life of the party, and you couldn't help but get caught up in his infectious enthusiasm of fun and life. Roy was truly devoted to his family, his pets and God. He was happiest being with his family, backpacking, or traveling the roads in his RV. He also loved reading and working on his family tree. Roy became a Mason as a young man and served in the US Navy on the ship U.S.S. Oriskany from July 1960 until July 1966. From his training in the service, Roy was a natural to serve in any function of security. He was one of the founders for the Carrollton Citizen Patrol, and he was also qualified to be an instructor for security officers. The last twenty years he took great pride in managing the security staff for First Horizon. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on July 17, 1942, Roy grew up in Texas and always claimed to be a Texan. This being said, he loved his country music and western clothes. He was often asked if he was the model for the statue that was in the lobby at 4000 Horizon Way. And if you caught him on the right day he just might say “Well, yes I was”. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ludell Ferguson, Jr.; his brothers, Larry Ferguson and Ted Ferguson, and his beloved daughter, Tammy. He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 37 years; his son, Roy Ferguson, IV and wife, Lisa; his grandchildren Austin Lane Ferguson and Kali Hufnagle; sister-in-law, Audrey Ferguson; nephew, Chandler Ferguson and wife, Shauna; niece, Jodelle Singleterry and husband, Dutch; one great nephew and three great nieces.
There will not be a funeral service but a Celebration of Roy’s Life. The date, time and place have not been determined at this time but will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Operation Kindness of Carrollton or SPCA of America in Roy's honor for his love of animals.
His wife, Marilyn, asks you to keep this one thought for Roy.....
“If only I knew . . . . . I was about to lose your smile and laughter, I would thank you for all the joy
you have brought to my life.”
A Celebration of Roy's Life will be held from 3 to 4 pm, Saturday, March 2nd at the Carrollton Senior Center, 1720 Keller Springs, Carrollton 75006.
